March 2010 - Happenings

Early part of the month headed to SE, Minnesota - Fishing
A group of women trekked out to the Preston Colonial Trails Inn on Hwy 52. We expected the weekend to be cloudy but warm, so melting so stream conditions seemed ideal. Reports for the week............success with pink squirrels, pheasant tails, copper johns. Linda and Terry were familiar with the area so we checked out various areas, including Forestville. Saturday turned out to be a sunny blue sky day so that meant we had to have a stealth approach. No luck..........we could see them so pretty obvious they could see us. We rented snowshoes for trekking the woods; but did not use them so that meant quite a workout to reach the streams.

Sunday morning before the group met, Becky and I checked out the local area. It rained and so it was still overcast with a slight drizzle. We thought it may be a great opportunity to check out the streams in town. We pulled over at one of the bridges and walked along the bike path. Becky had a couple casts and hooked a nice rainbow. With that, we anticipated quite a morning; but no luck. The sun came out and by the time we met up with the rest of the group, the sky cleared...........we headed out to Forestville State Park.

Although we were out of luck, we had a great time and found a lot areas to return to and fish this season. We are looking forward to coming back and hopefully have some bragging rights.
