No Winter 'Blues' here!!

Hi Everyone,

As you wait to get your fly lines wet, there are lots of activities 'happening' to gear up for March. Local fly shops have scheduled classes and events that you can register for............fly tying, learning about the streams, gear, hatches, etc. Clubs meet to tie flys, socialize, and gain more knowledge from each other or other experts..............one also had a 'personal trainer' give a few exercise tips to keep 'core' (torso) and legs flexible and loose to prevent them from cramping.

It has been quite a journey for me. Last spring while in-between projects, I started out by inquiring about this passion on a website. There I connected with a now FF email pen pal who had me check out the Women's Workshop at the Great Water Fly Fishing Expo last spring. I have since, joined the Women FF of MN club and became part of their planning committee, attended a Weekend FF Workshop (highly recommended!!!), participate in other clubs activities, and get out and fish!
Going to monthly meeting does not make it a passion because you have to take the time to invest some knowledge, participate, and take action!!

It's winter in Minnesota-don't hibernate - get up and go out! There are lots of activities to 'gear up' for Trout Opener. I will mention a couple of clubs attended the past few weekends and also some fly shops that have classes and events 'happening' from January to March.

Andy Roth's Fly Casting Classes at the Eden Prairie High School Dome

Fly Chuckers - they meet from Jan-Mar they meet twice a month--alternating weekends at the Como Pavilion (Bear Crossing Coffee Shop). Fly tying, knowledge sharing on trout, bass, panfish, and good conversation! About 4 of us from the WMFFMN checked this out.................It was a fun time. Yes, this was where a personal trainer got 18+'guys' on their feet and actively participate. I must say it was a 'sight to see' .......kudos for a bunch of fun, love to share their knowledge, and 'love the passion' group of guys.
Check out troutcashers website-Bob Travis, who guides, participates in workshops.
Phil Eldred-workshop - checkout Sportsman's Warehouse in Woodbury and he does Fly Casting clinics for 'free'.
Scott Nordby - Fly tying expert!

FFF-Lew Jewett Chapter - motto 'All Fish - All Water' a couple of us attended last Saturday get together held at Bob Travis' workplace lunchroom. It was a great time.......met other women (one of Cast for Recovery, another--Sara (coordinated the Rush River Cleanup)--
It was a great time; but although it was free, I paid a $$ because (humbling to admit) I locked my car keys and cell in the car.

Bob Mitchell's Fly Shop - check out their website. Met a 8 yr. old girl (Tiana) and her dad (father/daughter team) fly tying at the FFF-Lew Jewett Chapter mtg on Saturday...............highly recommended this Fly shop for their classes and events (website posted and open for registration)

I have posted links on this blog so check them out! Remember to put on your calendar the Great Water Fly Fishing Expo in Mpls on March 6-8, 2009 at the Sheraton- Bloomington.

Happy FF!!
